What is First Aid?

People at work can suffer injury or sudden illness. It is important that employers have made arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. First Aiders can help to carry out that duty, from the most basic of life support skills (Appointed Persons) to more advanced and detailed knowledge about injuries and illnesses (First Aid at Work 4-day).
A First Aider has many responsibilities in the workplace, including overseeing provisions of First Aid Supplies, reporting any accidents or injuries using the Accident Report Book, administering Emergency Treatment such as CPR and Bandaging, and arranging for extra help (Ambulance) when necessary.
As First Aiders, it is not our place to diagnose or fully treat injuries. We are merely a starting point in most cases, and our largest responsibility is often to seek the appropriate help (Doctors, Ambulance, etc) for those involved in accidents or those with illnesses.
For more information related to First Aid, we recommend that you see the Health and Safety Executive's website, at www.hse.gov.uk.
