Ideal as an alternative to the First Person on Scene Intermediate (FPOSi) qualification, the QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) also forms part of a progressive suite of prehospital care qualifications that lead to the QA Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF).

The 3 day QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) re-qualification course is also perfect for those who have already completed an FPOSi qualification and are due to requalify.

Endorsed by The Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care; The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and fulfilling the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level D, this qualification will prepare learners for a range of roles in pre-hospital emergency care.

The QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is one of the few first aid qualifications recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

Intended Audience

The QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification specifically designed for those seeking a career in the emergency services, ambulance service, the event and security medical sector or those who work in high risk environments.


Topics

Over a 5 day period, learners will gain the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to deal with a range of pre-hospital emergencies, such as: airway management, the control of catastrophic bleeding, the management of fractures, the recognition and management of medical emergencies and much more.

The course consists of the following 3 units;

  • Unit 1 - First Response Emergency Care
  • Unit 2 - First Response Emergency Care of Trauma
  • Unit 3 - First Response Emergency Care of Medical Conditions

  • Certification Validity

    3 Years


    Assessment

    The course is split into 3 units with a multi choice question paper for each unit.

    There are also 15 practical assessments/skills tests for this qualification:

    • Adult CPR and AED
    • Airway management
    • Burn severity
    • Catastrophic bleeding
    • Child cardiopulmonary resuscitation
    • Choking patient
    • Circulatory system
    • Infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation
    • Management of fractures
    • Medical emergencies
    • Patient report form
    • Respiratory system
    • Secondary survey
    • Unconscious patient
    • Wounds, bleeding and shock

    Prerequisites

    Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training.

    There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a
    minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent and a basic understanding of first aid.

    This course is currently taught and assessed through the medium of English.


    Teaching Style

    A variety of classroom based theory lessons along with an extensive range of practical scenarios and workshops will equip the learner with a range of skills and knowledge to attempt the assessments for each unit.
