Emergency First Aid at Work (Paediatric)
This course is ideal for child carers aiming to achieve NVQ levels 3 and above in childcare, teachers and assistants, playschools and nurseries.
What You Will Learn:
- Basic life saving First Aid skills
- Health & Safety regulations
- Paediatric life saving skills
- Common childhood illnesses
Course Content:
- First Aid provisions in the workplace
- Accident reporting procedures
- Safety & hygiene in First Aid roles
- Acquiring professional help
- The unconscious person (in and/or out of seizure)
- Choking Protocol
- Adult, Child & Infant
- Blood loss & common injuries
- Management of shock
- Management of a Heart Attack
- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Adult, Child & Infant
- Common childhood illnesses including Meningitis, Sickle Cell Anaemia, Asthma and Croup
- Febrile Convulsions
- Management of an ill/injured child
Pre Entry Course Requirements:
- Suitable candidate in the childcare profession who wishes to attain NVQ levels in childcare
- No formal qualification needed, but a reasonable level of learning abilities will be beneficial
- Maximum of 12 Candidates
Course Duration:
- Candidates are Required to obtain twelve contact hours, excluding breaks. The course is run over two sessions
- 09:00-17:00 (to allow for practical work)
Certification
- Three Years Emergency First Aid at Work for the Appointed Persons, with acknowledgement of paediatric-related knowledge and skills.
- HSE Strongly recommends that First Aiders in the workplace attend annual practical skills courses during valid certificated period, but this is not mandatory.
- Candidates will be continually assessed by their Training Facilitator
